The RCMP Safety Bear is a volunteer dressed in a large bear costume wearing the RCMP red serge jacket and the hat and brown belt. Safety Bear does not talk, so is accompanied by an assistant/handler.

Safety Bear appearances at kindergarten and elementary junior classes, see Safety Bear accompanied by a Police member who gives a presentation about road safety, when to say "no" and other important messages for that age group. Usually a Goodie bag is given to each child, with colouring books, stickers and other treats.

The Bear also does special appearances at parades and is always a star at the Nanoose Bay Teddy Bear Picnic every August.
